From the time he was young, Brisbane-born author Lachlan Bond was captivated by the power of storytelling. Whether it was diving into Tolkien’s sprawling worlds, exploring the darker realms of Stephen King, or losing himself in the drama of Game of Thrones and Star Wars, Lachlan grew up devouring every kind of fantasy he could get his hands on. It wasn’t long before he began to create his own.

As a child, he wrote short stories for friends and family, stapling together little booklets complete with hand-drawn covers in coloured pencil. Storytelling wasn’t just a pastime, it was a calling. Years later, during his time in the military, that same creative spark gave rise to his debut novel, The Whispering Depths, a dark fantasy tale that pushes its characters to the very edge of survival and sanity.

In The Whispering Depths, readers meet Arno, a young slave raised under the harsh rule of the Masters of the empire. When Arno’s beloved uncle disappears at sea, the boy is thrust into a dangerous journey filled with ruthless pirates, ancient monsters, and the haunting pull of the deep. Arno’s fight to uncover the truth is both a battle for his uncle and a struggle against the darkness that threatens to consume him. The story is gripping, layered, and unafraid to explore the shadows of the human soul.

But Lachlan doesn’t stop at original worlds. He also breathes new life into ancient tales. His novel The Road to Ithaca: an Odyssey reimagines the myth of Odysseus in a strikingly human way. Told as a letter to the goddess Calypso, this retelling strips away the polished veneer of heroism to reveal a flawed man wrestling with guilt, consequence, and the gods’ relentless meddling. Readers will recognize the legendary monsters and trials, but they’ll also discover an Odysseus who feels painfully, powerfully real.

For Lachlan, writing is more than storytelling, it is an exploration of what it means to be human in the face of impossible odds. His books offer readers rich world building, complex characters, and the kind of moral ambiguity that lingers long after the final page.

Whether you’re a fan of dark fantasy brimming with danger and mystery, or a lover of myth retellings that challenge tradition, Lachlan Bond’s work delivers unforgettable journeys.
